Ulysses is all about travel, expanding your knowledge, and living life to the fullest. As seniors approaching graduation we can use this poem as advice for how we should live our lives after high school. Ulysses says, “I am a part of all that I have met” This quote shows us that everything we have experienced in these four years and even before has transformed us into the people we are today, and everything we experience after graduation will continue to shape us as people. He then says, “…spirit yearning in desire To follow knowledge like a sinking star, Beyond the utmost bound of human thought” As seniors this quote tells us to never stop learning, to expand your horizons, and to continue to grow. At the end of the poem he says, “Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” We can use this as advice for years further down the line. That even though we will get weak physically, we must be strong in will and never stop pushing forward, never stop living, “To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths Of all the western stars, until I die”. ~203 words

As a senior, there are many aspects I have to think about, career wise, to prepare for college, but the first step is desiring to be something greater than what I am. We all desire to be something more in our lives besides another statistic and Ulysses recognizes that in his journey. He notices that without knowledge it’s harder to achieve the dreams you’ve planned. “To follow knowledge like a sinking star, Beyond the utmost bound of human thought” is what I plan to do not only this year, but during college to help achieve my dream of nursing. On the other hand, Ulysses also gives us some advice. He reminds us that “T’ is not too late to seek a newer world. Push off,…for my purpose holds To sail beyond the sunset”. Therefore, as a senior, I should take risks and try new things that I haven’t done over the past three years of high school, and also reevaluate my purpose in life. I learned that my purpose should not become empty, but instead be filled with the certainty to follow my dreams and believe in my future before it’s too late. *193 words*

As a freshmen coming into High school, this place was new to me. This was just a new world waiting to be discover. In the past I have discover middle and elementary school. High school was a just another experience waiting to happen. They were things and experiences waiting for me to discover. Now I have been here for a quite a while, almost four years. I am now in my senior year. I have discover new things and rekindle with the old things. I have met people whose words and faces I will never forget. People that have taught me things that had became a part of me just as my nationality is. I have learn and experience things that will stay with me forever. I can Honestly say that “All times I have enjoy’d greatly, have suffer’d greatly, both with those that loved me, and alone”(7-9). Although high school sometimes felt like the battle of Troy and I with my Achilles heel it is one of the greatest experience of my life. “I am a part of all that I have met”(180). Although this is my last year and high school is coming to an end they are still things for me to experience. Even though I am tired and weak, I am “strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield”(69-70). There will be no senioritis for me because I am in it till the end.

There are several ways that "Ulysses" applies to me as a senior. Pretty soon, everyone that we've grown with will go their own ways. Just as he has his "mariners, souls that have toil'd, and wrought, and thought with me," we have friends that have grown up with us, been our classmates , and been our partners in this experience of high school. Many of these people we will rarely speak to or see again after we graduate. A lot of people peak in high school. Ulysses spoke about the commoners as people "that hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me." We're going to go into the world as the most irrelevant beings. In 4 years nobody in high school then will know us either. Everyone is going to go on as if we never existed. Some people are okay with that kind of life, but I believe that we can all somehow make our mark. "Ulysses" says. "... made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." Even though time will affect us, we should forever be trying to achieve and to leave something behind on Earth. We have to make some kind of mark in high school, then go on to make our mark on the rest of the world too. -224 words

The poem Ulysses is about reflection of one’s past and present and of one’s preparation and excitement for the future. One part of the poem focuses on Ulysses reflecting on his life and on his past adventures. And as a Senior, I have spent some time let the fact that this is the end of my high school career or, to go a bit further, the end of my compulsory education. And to be honest, it feels strange to say the least. Ulysses says “All times I have enjoyed greatly, have suffered greatly, both with those that love me, and alone…” This quote made me reflect on all the experiences I’ve shared with friends and those that were personal to me. He then says “I am a part of all that I met.” As a Senior, I have been noticing things that have become part of me today that a few years ago, I would’ve never guessed. Yet the quote “yet all experience is an arch wherethrough gleams that untraveled world whose margins fades forever and forever when I move” made me wonder a few years down the line, will all of this just become distant memories that I can look back upon with fondness or will they all be forgotten? -211 words.

In the poem “Ulysses” it is all about living life to the fullest, expanding your knowledge and experience and to keep living no matter where you are in life. This poem demonstrates an old man who even though he is old he is going to explore and travel for as long as he can because he will not let his age stop him from living. As a senior headed towards graduation this poem impacts me because towards the end of the year it may get chaotic with responsibilities, applying for college and figuring out my life and I can’t let that stop me. This poem shows that I need to keep on working hard no matter the situation and no matter where I am, whether in high school or in life in general. Like Ulysses I’m going to put my best effort forward until the very end and I’m going to keep exploring new things throughout life.(word count 157)

The poem Ulysses has many connections to my life as a senior in high school. The beginning of the poem explains Ulysses’ feelings as he reaches the end of his journey and reflects on his past. “I have enjoyed greatly, have suffered greatly.” This quote shows how throughout high school I’ve had up and downs. I’ve had days that I wished would never end, and other days that I’ve struggled to get through.

Ulysses talks about his experiences throughout his life and what he goes through. When he says “For always roaming with a hungry heart”, it resembles me as a senior because I was always driven to keep going. Despite the challenges I may have faced, I was always ‘hungry’ for the future and what good things it will contain for me. We were all bound for this moment ever since we walked through the doors on our first day of freshman year, but this is only the beginning of our last year, we have to make the most of it. A quote that explains this is, “Death closes all: but something ere the end, Some work of noble note, may yet be done”. Of course we are not dying (even though we may be dying to finish this year) this year will eventually come to a close. As Mr. Leroy said, “Leave your mark” and I believe that we all have something still to offer in our final months here. We should all follow Ulysses when he says “Come, my friends ‘T is not too late to seek a newer world”. We should all cross the stage, say I did it, continue on in our lives in a newer world that we will all seek and conquer. [216 words]

Senior year it's finally here after a long four years of moaning and groaning. We've had many experiences that have made us who we are today. The poem Ulysses connects to our life as high schoolers. In the beginning of the poem Ulysses reflects on his life by saying “ I am a part of all that I have met”. This connects to me by bringing my attention that throughout high school, I've learned from others that I've met or been around. These people continue to be a part of me.

Alfred, Lord Tennyson work of art can really apply to a typical senior in high school. Even though high school is coming to an end, it doesn't mean life can't go on and better things won't happen. Life is about taking risks and finding out who you are. In the poem Tennyson writes,"How dull is it to pause, to make an end," and I believe that should be one of the mottos in life. If life were to end just after high school, then I've lived a pretty boring life. There are so many opportunities beyond that I wish to take. In the very last line of the poem is says, "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield," and this is another quote that supports that a person should continue what they're doing so they could be become better. On the second page of the poem it states, "Death closes all:but something ere the end, " and this proves that there's never an ending. There's always room for more improvement and doing more. Everything you do is really for yourself.(word count is 184)

To my understanding Ulysses talks about living life to the fullest and traveling a lot. As a senior heading towards graduation these are all things I keep in mind, not only in my senior year but in my daily life. He states “all times I have enjoy’d greatly, have suffer’d greatly, both with those that loved me, and alone.” It is important to understand that it is not always going to be easy and that sometimes you’re going to have to be alone but that’s part of life and you have to make the best out of every situation. Traveling is essential to life, Ulysses says “I am part of all that I have met” As a senior in high school this is something I try to do because being part of all you have met is basically learning something from every person and I believe everyone has something to offer, it is important not to burn bridges at such a young age and to travel a lot, because the more you travel, the more people you meet, and the more you will learn and experience. Lastly Ulysses says “To follow knowledge like a shining star, beyond the utmost bound of human thought.” This quote talks about how important it is to get a good education and follow your dreams, whether a senior a high school or college, you always have to dream big and not let anyone discourage your dreams. Lord Tennyson’s Ulysses can apply to me as a graduating high school senior because after being in one place for so long, Ulysses tells us to find excitement and fulfillment. Tennyson writes, “I cannot rest from travel: I will drink Life to the lees”. This expression is a message to us saying that we should enjoy our lives as much as we can and not stop from what makes us happy. As seniors we think that when we leave high school we have to grow up immediately and stop being ourselves but this poem also tells us to live while we’re young and have fun but Ulysses says, “How dull it is to pause, to make an end,. To rust unburnish'd, not to shine in use! As tho' to breathe were life”. It tells us that life is not just about breathing but also about going on and not staying dormant in one place. Ulysses also tells us that even as we mature into adulthood and get older we should still find excitement in life. For example Tennyson writes “ ’tis not too late to seek a newer world.” This shows us that after all of Ulysses’ years on Earth and all his travels he is still able to find adventure and not allow himself to waste away. Just like we should not allow our excitement and love for life waste away as we get older (235)

Ulysses relates to me as a high school senior in many ways because getting this far is a journey I have embarked on. Throughout this ‘journey’ of high school, I’ve been eager to learn from every situation i find myself in, and tried my best to make a good result out of it, this is a reflection in the poem as Ulysses says on lines 13-14 that “...always roaming with a hungry heart/ much have I seen and known, cities of men”. It shows he was always ready to find new discoveries from travelling. As I progressed from elementary school to middle school, and then to high school, line 43 which reads “ when I am gone. He works his work, I mine” relates to me as a senior in a way that at this point in my academic life, I’ve realized that everyone is subject to whatever task they are appointed, and that being independent with little or no help with academic work and general decisions depends me. Also as graduation approaches, I know I wouldn’t be unconcerned with still working hard but will be “...strong in will/ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” because I don’t give up easily even when things seem very challenging to me.
