Introduce Yourself!

2/25/2026

Picture
You are no longer yourself.
You are the dystopian identity you have created.
Using your new dystopian pen name, introduce yourself to the class as if you are a character inside a dystopian novel or film.

Your introduction should be approximately 150–300 words long and include the following elements:

1. Identify Your Text (2-4 sentences).
Briefly summarize the novel or film in which you appear.
  • What is happening in this world?
  • What major conflict defines the society?
  • Who or what holds power?
  • What is at stake?
This summary should be concise but clear. Imagine someone who has never encountered this story.

2. Describe Who You Are (2-4 sentences).
Explain your role in this world.
  • Are you a rebel? A loyal citizen? A survivor? An enforcer?
  • What motivates you?
  • What do you fear?
  • What do you desire?
  • How do you survive (or resist)?
Avoid vague traits. Ground your description in the structures of your society.

3. Explain the Type of Dystopian World You Come From (2-4 sentences).
Identify the kind of dystopia your story represents. Consider:
  • Totalitarian surveillance state
  • Theocratic regime
  • Corporate-controlled society
  • Environmental collapse
  • Post-apocalyptic wasteland
  • Technological social-credit system
  • Engineered “utopia” masking oppression
Explain how this system controls its people:
  • Through fear?
  • Through pleasure?
  • Through propaganda?
  • Through scarcity?
  • Through social pressure?
  • Through rewriting history?
Be specific.

Curtis Everett
2/27/2026 07:53:51 am

Snowpiercer is set in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future where Earth has become a frozen, uninhabitable wasteland following a failed climate-engineering experiment to stop global warming. The dystopian world in Snowpiercer is controlled through a rigid, brutal caste system enforced by the "Sacred Engine" ideology, which demands absolute separation between the elite front-train passengers and the exploited, starving tail-end laborers. Control is maintained via severe, theatrical violence, mandatory indoctrination of children, and orchestrated revolutions that function as population control. Curtis Everett was a member of the lower-class tail section passengers as they lead a revolution against the elite of the front of the train, and the main protagonist of Snowpiercer.

Katniss Everdeen
2/27/2026 07:54:37 am

My name is Katniss Everdeen.
I am from the world of The Hunger Games. In my country, Panem the Capitol controls everything. The districts are poor and forced to send two kids each year to fight in the Hunger Games where only one can survive. The Games are meant to remind us that the Capitol has all the power. If we rebel we die, that is a rule set by the higher ups. I am from District 12. I volunteered for the Games to save my little sister. I am not trying to be a hero. I just want to protect the people I love and stay alive. I know how to hunt and survive because that is how we live back home. I am afraid of losing my family, but I am also tired of being afraid all the time. My world is a totalitarian government that controls people through fear and hunger. The Capitol watches us, lies to us, and turns our pain into entertainment. They think fear will keep us quiet. But sometimes fear can turn into rebellion.

Bernard Marx
2/27/2026 08:04:37 am

I live in a future society in “Brave New World" where people are created in labs and trained to follow rules and stay in their social class. The government controls everything so people don’t feel strong emotions or question anything. The main conflict is that people don’t have real freedom, even though they think they are happy. The Controllers have all the power, and what’s at stake is people’s freedom to think and feel for themselves.
I am Bernard Marx, and even though I am an Alpha, I don’t feel like I belong. I don’t enjoy the same things everyone else does, and I question the way society works. I fear being punished or sent away for being different, but I want to be myself and understand the truth. I survive by acting normal in front of others, even though inside I feel different.
My world is a technological dystopia where the government controls people using science and conditioning. People are controlled through pleasure by using drugs like soma and constant entertainment so they don’t think too deeply. From the time they are created, they are taught to obey and never question anything. This keeps everyone under control because they are afraid of being different and losing their place in society.

In this world I live in I've realized I'm a clone and my job is to care for organ donors clones. I'm an organ donor myself so that means I need to take care of myself since we are meant to work for the ¨real people¨. Me and the other clones are constantly isolated and kept in boarding school from the real world because of our ¨special status¨. I was raised at Hailsham where me and the other clones were created to do this job. This is how we are controlled, we are raised and kept here but at the end of the day we came to realize and accept what we were created for. We've realized that our purpose is to care and donate organs for the normal people until we are completed with our job. There's no fighting back, we just accepted what and who we are in this world.

The Man
2/27/2026 08:09:08 am

The Man, a lone survivor in a world run by a tyrant who has destroyed half of the population in order to silence them from going against him. His nickname is "The Road", and he goes by this to hide himself from the government forces that try to take him down. He led a rebellion against them, but after the war, everyone scattered to different states in order to flee from the wrath of the tyrant, Lord Maximal. The Man, constantly on the run for his life fears not losing his own, but rather the innocent lives caught in the crossfire of his retreat; Lord Maximal does not care who gets in the way, as long as the threat is taken care of, nobody else matters. This post-apocalyptic world is in ruins, everything outside of Lord Maximal's estate has been turned to ruins and rubble. Inside of his domain, he has his own world, with his closest allies, but outside of those walls, death and destruction surrounds the area. The Man pushes through these rubble and looks for scraps of food in order to get through the day. The system abuses its power to push people around to get what they want. If you don't comply with them, then you won't be around long enough to give another opinion. In this world, on the run, The Man must do what he must in order to stay alive in order to stop Lord Maximal and his plans to rule the planet.

the boy
2/27/2026 08:35:57 am

Hi, my name is The Boy. I'm from a world that's been totally destroyed. Like, a long time ago, something super bad happened and now the earth is all ruined. It's hard for people to survive. There's not enough food or water, and some people are really mean and hurt others.

I'm just trying to take care of my dad. We're trying to stay safe from the bad people who want to hurt us. They're like, gangs and stuff, and they roam around looking for people to take advantage of. I'm really scared of getting caught and hurt. I just want to find a safe place where we can live and be okay.

In my world, it's tough. People who are strong and mean get to be in charge, and they make everyone else do what they want. It's hard to find food and water, and we have to be super careful all the time. I survive by finding stuff to eat and drink, and by staying hidden from the bad people. And I do whatever it takes to keep my dad safe.

We have to travel a lot to find food and shelter. We walk for days, and sometimes we have to fight for what we need. It's not easy, but I'm used to it. I've learned how to be careful, how to find food, and how to stay safe.

I'm also really worried about the future. I don't know if we'll ever find a safe place to live, or if we'll ever be able to go back to the way things were before. I just know that I have to keep going, and do whatever it takes to keep my dad and me alive.

That's my life. It's not easy, but I'm just trying to make it through each day. I'm hoping that someday things will get better, and we can find a way to live in peace. But until then, I'm just trying to

Teresa Agnes
2/27/2026 08:39:37 am

I am Teresa Agnes, a central, often divisive, character in James Dashner's dystopian Maze Runner series. I appear as a key figure, often referred to as "The Traitor" or "the Last One." I am the only woman in Group A and also the co-creator of the Maze with Thomas. I am characterized as a deeply polarized, intelligent, and conflicted figure who embodies the moral ambiguity of sacrificing a few for the benefit of many. I come from a young adult dystopian post-apocalyptic world devastated by extreme climate change and a pandemic virus.

The Terminator (Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 or T-800)
2/27/2026 09:21:38 am

Greetings, I am Cyberdyne Systems Model 101, though you may call me T-800. My origins reside with the world of The Terminator (1984), a technological post-apocalyptic world following a nuclear event known as Judgement Day. In this timeline, a defense system known as Skynet gains self-awareness and turns on its creators, initiating a war to exterminate humanity. This future is desolate and unmaintained. The war is fought between the human resistance and Skynet’s machine army. I am a mere tool created and designed for infiltration and assassination. My titanium endoskeleton wrapped in living human tissue is an intentional design made to appear human. I do not feel the standard human emotions and I will stop at nothing until my mission is complete: the termination of key resistance figures.

My world is a Technological Dystopia, specifically, a post-apocalyptic wasteland governed by Artificial Intelligence. This system controls the remains of the ruined world through fear and elimination. According to my analysis of human conversation, Skynet is ruthless and uses force to rewrite history and destroy obstacles. This future consists only of the engineered, and is by no means a utopia for the flesh and blood.

Logan5
2/27/2026 10:12:36 am

Hello, I'm Logan. I lived in a sealed city where everyone enjoys comfort and pleasure, until we turn thirty. At that age, we are required to enter “Carousel,” a ceremony that promises renewal but actually ensures we do not grow old. The city’s central computer controls everything, and authorities enforce its laws by hunting down “Runners” who try to escape their fate.

For most of my life, I accepted this system without question, believing it kept society stable and safe. But when I discovered the truth behind the Carousel, fear replaced my thoughts, and I started to question the truth behind renewal and the world beyond the city’s walls. This society uses technology, pleasure, and propaganda to distract us from the harsh fate we soon have to endure.

D-503
2/27/2026 11:15:33 am

"We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin

This world is a supreme conformist society where totalitarian control reigns supreme inside the One State by the "Benefactor", an all powerful leader. People are no more than gears in a machine referred to as numbers and everything is decided for them. From their eating to sleeping everything is synchronized, the difference is looked down on as disease. Their emotions become their sense of "I" which is taken away through lobotomization. This type of collectivism is only followed by the rationalistic following of only logic and math. The individual is an apparent disease that must be cured.

I am D-503 Mathematician and chief architect of the Integral, a space ship with the purpose of spreading our One state society to other planets with our mathematical comprehensions and logical assertions, but slowly I begin an awakening when this mysterious woman I-330 brazenly mocks me, in doing so slowly introduces me to my EMOTIONS. Things that cannot be calculated are a bane like the square root of negative 1 so I can’t understand the reason for my intoxication. This woman who intrigues me guides me but defies the One State. How can I be the perfect cog in the machine by following the whims of this rebel? This turmoil is something I must continue to fight, but from what I can FEEL how long do I last?

the terminator
2/27/2026 11:24:07 am

I am The Terminator, I am a time traveler, an assassin, and a cyborg. I live in a world where humanity has already lost its war against an AI known as the Skynet. In the future, machines rule the planet, hunting the last human survivors in a wasteland. The central conflict is between humanity and its own creation, as Skynet attempts to erase resistance leader John Connor by killing his mother in the past. All the power belongs to the machines, and what is at stake is nothing less than the survival of the human race.

I am a cybernetic living organism living tissue over metal endoskeleton that was sent back in time to complete a mission. I am an enforcer of the Skynet’s will, designed for infiltration and termination. I do not feel fear, I calculate probabilities of success and eliminate obstacles. My purpose is simply to ensure the elimination of its origin. I survive through superior strength, adaptive learning, and relentless pursuit.

My world is a post-apocalyptic wasteland created by technological overreach and total machine control. It is a system ruled entirely by artificial intelligence, where surveillance and automated extermination leave no room for rebellion without constant risk of being killed. Humans are controlled through fear of becoming extinct. There is no propaganda because there is no need, there's only machines and the hunted people. It is not a false utopia. It is an extinction in progress.

Winston Smith
2/27/2026 11:45:09 am

I am the protagonist of George Orwell’s 1949 dystopian novel, 1984. I live in Airstrip One (formerly Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania, which is constantly at war with either Eurasia or Eastasia. The society is a totalitarian surveillance state where the Party, led by the enigmatic Big Brother, controls all actions, thoughts, and historical records. The major conflict is between the individual human spirit and the Party's demand for absolute, unquestioning loyalty and conformity. The very concept of objective truth, personal memory, and the future of human autonomy is at stake.

Jonas (The Giver's)
2/27/2026 11:50:10 am

I live in a society where everyone is controlled by the government. The government controls their jobs, family and future. The biggest or main conflict is that the government hides the truth from their citizens, memories and emotions. The government consists of elders who hold all the power and they can decide if you live in fake safety or get real feelings and freedom.

My name is Jonas, I was chosen to be the Receiver of Memory, which means I learn the truth about the past. I'm different from all the other people because unlike them I can feel emotions and see things they can't. My goal is to show the reality to others and escape from this cruel society.

My world is a controlled dystopia world that is controlled by the government. The government removes people's emotions, memories, and choices. The citizens in this society are controlled with strict rules, lack of knowledge, and fear. The government hides the truth from the people so they could be more obedient and not question their freedom or their feelings.

Offred

the handmaids tail takes place in the near-future Republic of Gilead where women are controlled 100% by men.
I'm offred.
a women forced into sexual servitude as a handmaid in the totalitarian seperated from my family trying to escape. Constantly being watched by "eyes¨ and forced to follow strict rules, and faces a bleak existence holding on to my memories to maintain the humanity i have left.
this world is a Theocratic regime a form of government where religious leaders hold political power, and the state is governed by religious law, doctrines, or divine guidance.

Kristen Raymonde
2/27/2026 01:32:45 pm

My name is Kirsten Raymonde. I am from the world Station Eleven in which we are living in the aftermath of a deadly flu pandemic which has wiped out most of civilization. Most of the major conflicts are now between those trying to rebuild civilization. The power in this world is divided by small communities, and dangerous leaders like The Prophet (Tyler Leander). The last of humanity is at state, in a world where survival is the primary focus. I am a survivor and an actress in the Traveling Symphony, a group that performs in the new world. I look for meaning in art and preserving the memory of the pre-pandemic world. I suffer with the trauma by the violence I have had to commit to survive by carrying knife tattoos as a record of those i've killed. My world represents a Post-apocalyptic wasteland which we are controlled through a combination of ideological indoctrination, religious fanaticism, a fear-based coercion, and the strategic isolation of the young.

V
2/27/2026 01:43:18 pm

V is a masked character who wants revenge against a fascist, totalitarian regimes. V is a survivor of a very cruel, involuntary experiment conducted by the Norsefire regime at the Larkhill resettlement camp. He tries to take down the government with heroism and to take down the government that causes him trauma when he was younger. V does not experience fear himself, but he fears for the people of the Norsefire government. The world that V comes from is very corrupt. The people are under total control. The citizens are under surveillance, they have a loss of civil liberties, and they live in fear. The dystopian world V comes from represents a warning about what happens when governments gain unchecked authority and citizens surrender freedom for security

Frenchie ( The Marrow Thieves )
2/27/2026 01:56:49 pm

In my world, the Great Lakes have turned to salt and the sun has scorched the earth, but the real nightmare is that people stopped dreaming. To fix their madness, the "Recruiters" hunt us, the Indigenous people, to harvest our bone marrow, which holds the only dreams left in the world. The government holds absolute power through the "Schools," which are actually factories where they kill us to bottle our essence as a serum. Our very lives are at stake because we have become a natural resource to be mined for the survival of a broken society.

I am Francis, though everyone calls me Frenchie, and I am a survivor who found a "chosen family" after losing my blood brother to the recruiters. I started as a scared kid, but now I am a protector and a rebel motivated by the need to keep my people alive and our stories intact. I fear the white vans of the Recruiters more than death, but I desire a future where I can stop running and start building a home.

My world is a post-apocalyptic wasteland born from environmental collapse, governed by a totalitarian regime that uses medicalized genocide to maintain order. The system controls people through scarcity and the commodification of culture, turning our DNA into a luxury product for the elite. They use the same tactics as the old residential schools; fear, kidnapping, and the rewriting of history; to make us disappear while they strip mine our souls for their own comfort.

Tris Prior
2/27/2026 02:43:06 pm

My name is Beatrice Prior but I changed my name to Tris. I live in an isolated city-state that used to be Chicago, a futuristic world in which society is divided into five factions. We are walled off from the rest of the world. Everyone is split into five factions and you choose yours at 16. I was born into Abnegation but I chose to go to Dauntless, valuing courage. We are like a trained military force, taking on dangerous challenges without hesitation. I felt like an impostor at Abnegation because I can’t seem to hold to the values they have. If you don’t fall into any of the categories, you are considered, “Divergent”, which is me. It means I fit into multiple fractions but people like me are considered dangerous to their social order. I was warned to hide my status and make sure nobody ever knows except those like me. Because I am Divergent, I am immune to the mind-control serum used on the Dauntless, allowing me to stop the war attack that threatens everyone I love.

Thomas

Over the last two years, every thirty days a new teenage boy emerges from an elevator with no recollection about their past, only their name. After exiting the elevator, they must learn how to live in the world while trying to survive in their new enclosed society also known as the Glade. There is no electronics or modern day tech to help us along but that isn't the biggest problem we face, it's that we don't know why we're here. The furthest the boys had gotten was learning their way around “The Maze”. It's a large opening in the outer walls that holds crucial information about why we were taken here but it also warps and changes daily with creatures out to kill us the second we step foot inside. Because of the dangers, the boys are assigned different jobs and tasks to keep the Glade afloat. Our leader, Alby, was one of the original 10 who were brung here. His job is to oversee all operations, maintain order, and make crucial decisions to ensure the safety of the boys. Our freedom and truth as to what we're doing here is at stake. I’m a rebel in this society. I don't follow the rules of others and I do what is best for the group, even if it upsets the guys around me. I want to learn and understand the world we are placed in and help us escape but I'm scared of what awaits inside the maze. Instead of doing my assigned duties, I run into The Maze that is prohibited for those who are not Runners (guys that run The Maze daily in order to bring back information). Our world is a corporate-controlled society dystopian with the rich scientists working for an organization known as WICKED. They use us and want information about our survival skills to see if we are eligible to survive in a post-apocalyptic dystopian society our world has become.
