These images (all images of Afghanistan occuring during the time period in Part 2) could depict some of the main plot points of the beginning of Part II (Laila's Story) of A Thousand Splendid Suns. "by the time we're twenty, Hasina used to say Laila, you'll make us two dummies proud. You're going to be somebody. I know one day I'll pick up a newspaper and find your picture on the front page" (166). This quote resonated with me with the theme of shelter because they are words that make you feel like you are at the right place in life, this is the type of environment that makes you feel at home with encouragement of people trying to push you in life. Plenty of characters throughout the story haven't really gotten enough of this treatment which ultimately makes a hole in the heart just emptiness with nothing to look forward to only being reminded the cruelty of afghanistan. People have developed with a sense of being left out with love but Laila being reminded by this moment at some point in her life knows how its like to experience love and thinks about it a lot that she becomes a person really involved in the space of romance.

When Tariq asked to marry Laila, Laila hesitated a bit. It's important because it shows a lot of character development because you really have to be close with someone to be willing to marry them on a whim. Also, the fact that Laila hesitated shows how she really wanted to marry him, but she put her family first. Also it shows how far their relationship has come because in the beginning of part 2, she saw him as a brother and a little crush but now he wants her to be his wife and before this they had sex.

In the novel "A thousand splendid Suns" by Hosseini we learn about Laila life.She is a well educated girl whose father only focus on her education and safety.In the text it states,"Babi had made it clear to Laila from a young age that the most important thing in his life,after his safety,was he schooling"(Hosseini 114).This shows the shelter is essential for survival,we can learn the shelter and safety is above and beyond everything else.We learn the education is an important factor in someone life but shelter, either physical or emotional shelter is more important.We can see the Laila has a physical shelter because after the bombing starter in Afghan her father "Babi" took her out of school and he took care of her schooling.We can also see the Laila has a emotional shelter because even thought her mother and father are in constant argument her father support in everything she does.He believe in Laila education.
