Introduce Yourself!

2/25/2026

Picture

You are no longer yourself.
You are the dystopian identity you have created.
Using your new dystopian pen name, introduce yourself to the class as if you are a character inside a dystopian novel or film.

Your introduction should be approximately 150–300 words long and include the following elements:

1. Identify Your Text (2-4 sentences).
Briefly summarize the novel or film in which you appear.
-What is happening in this world?
-What major conflict defines the society?
     -Who or what holds power?
     -What is at stake?
This summary should be concise but clear. Imagine someone who has never encountered this story.

2. Describe Who You Are (2-4 sentences).
Explain your role in this world.
-Are you a rebel? A loyal citizen? A survivor? An enforcer?
    -What motivates you?
     -What do you fear?
     -What do you desire?
-How do you survive (or resist)?
Avoid vague traits. Ground your description in the structures of your society.

3. Explain the Type of Dystopian World You Come From (2-4 sentences).
Identify the kind of dystopia your story represents.
Consider:
     -Totalitarian surveillance state
     -Theocratic regime
     -Corporate-controlled society
     -Environmental collapse
     -Post-apocalyptic wasteland
     -Technological social-credit system
     -Engineered “utopia” masking oppression
Explain how this system controls its people:
     -Through fear?
     -Through pleasure?
     -Through propaganda?
     -Through scarcity?
     -Through social pressure?
     -Through rewriting history?
Be specific.

Eric(Divergent)

My name is Eric and I appear in the novel Divergent a world where society is divided into five factions based on human virtues Abnegation Dauntless Erudite Amity and Candor Each person must choose one faction to dedicate their life to or risk becoming factionless and powerless The major conflict arises when Erudite manipulates Dauntless into overthrowing Abnegation government in a violent coup Power rests in the hands of those who can control information and technology and what is at stake is not just political control but the freedom and lives of innocent citizens I am a leader in Dauntless but I believe weakness has no place in our faction I enforce brutal initiation processes to ensure only the strongest survive I am not a rebel I am loyal to the vision of strength and order even if that requires fear and violence I am motivated by power and the belief that courage must be proven through dominance I fear weakness more than death and I survive by staying ruthless strategic and always one step ahead of those who doubt me The world I come from is a totalitarian society disguised as a structured utopia Though factions were meant to create harmony they instead divide and control the population Surveillance manipulation, and mind control technology reveal how easily power can corrupt a system that claims to protect its people

Finnick Odair
2/26/2026 11:29:01 am

I would be talking about The Hunger Games Finnick Odair is a tragic, heroic, and complex character in The Hunger Games who won the 65th Games at age 14, becoming the youngest victor. A charismatic District 4 career, he was forced into Capitol prostitution by President Snow, later becoming a key rebel leader, husband to Annie Cresta, and dying in battle.

Finnick Odair was forced by President Snow to sell his body to wealthy Capitol citizens after winning the Hunger Games, as Snow threatened to kill his loved ones if he refused; he complied to protect them, though he used his time with patrons to gather secrets for the rebellion, appearing to be a willing participant to the public while secretly working against the Capitol.

Finnick death Mags kissed Finnick before dying as a selfless, non-romantic goodbye, a gesture of deep care and gratitude, and a way to communicate what words couldn't as she sacrificed herself by walking into the deadly fog to save Peeta, Katniss, and Finnick in the Hunger Games arena. It was a final, poignant moment acknowledging their strong, almost mother son bond and her understanding that she was slowing them down.

President Coin
2/26/2026 11:34:36 am

My name is President Coin, but in this world names dont really matter as much as control does. I come from a story where the country of Panem is ruled by a rich Capitol that forces kids from poor districts to fight to the death on live TV, called the Hunger Games. The main conflict is power — who gets to lead after years of fear and violence — and what’s at stake is freedom for millions of people. Right now the old government is falling, and a new one is trying to rise from the ashes.
I am the leader of District 13, the rebel stronghold underground. Some people see me as a savior, others prob see me as just another ruler, but I do what I think is needed to win. I’m motivated by control and order becuase chaos is dangerous, and I fear losing power after coming this far. I survive by being calm, cold, and always thinking ahead, even if that means making hard choices.
My world is a totalitarian war society mixed with propaganda. People are controlled thru fear, rationing supplies, strict rules, and messages that shape what they believe is true. Even when we say we are fighting for freedom, power is still being fought over behind the scenes. In my world, revolutions dont always mean things get better — sometimes they just change who is in charge.

Luke

The Handmaid's Tale is a 1985 dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood which talks about how Gilead's totalitarian theocracy enslaves fertile women to combat plummeting fertility rates, creating a society where survival and identity are threatened under the ruling elite’s oppressive power.
I’m Luke, the father of Hannah and the husband of Offred.
My main motivation was to find and protect my family. I desire to reunite with them and return to a normal life. I fear for their safety and the uncertainty of their fates. I also fear losing my loved ones and the oppressive Gilead regime.I survived by avoiding being caught by the guardians and escaping to Canada, where I became a refugee and continued to fight for June and Offred’s freedom. I used my resources and connections to help others and never gave up hope.I was primarily a survivor.
The dystopia depicted in the Handmaid’s Tale is a totalitarian theocracy, which means the society is controlled by a religious group that uses extreme interpretations of religious texts to justify its oppressive rule. The government of Gilead, as it’s called in the story, is a patriarchal dictatorship. It strips women of their rights, forcing them into reproductive slavery. This society is characterized by strict laws and the oppression of women, enforced through distorted religious justifications.

Never Let Me Go is a dystopian novel set in an alternate version of England where human clones are raised for a single purpose: to donate their organs to “normal” people. The story follows Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy, who grow up at a secluded boarding school called Hailsham, believing they are special and protected. As they mature, they slowly discover the truth, that their lives are predetermined, and they will eventually complete a series of donations before they “complete” or die.

I am not a rebel, but a quiet survivor shaped by the system that created me. As a “carer” I travel from center to center, comforting donors as they give away pieces of themselves, knowing my turn will come. I am motivated by loyalty and memory by holding onto the friendships and love I formed at Hailsham, even when the world tells me my life was designed for sacrifice.

The world I come from looks peaceful and advanced, but it hides a cruel system underneath. Clones like me are created only to donate our organs so other people can live longer. We are not controlled with violence or strict rules, instead we are raised to believe this is normal and necessary. Through isolation, limited information, and careful education, society teaches us to accept our fate without ever questioning it.

Ofglen ( The Handsmaid Tale )
2/27/2026 08:21:52 am

Hello, everyone. I am Ofglen, under the Commander Glen. I live in the Republic of Gilead, which has replaced the United States of America. The Commanders hold all power, which consists of men who harvest women's fertility.

I am a handmaid, assigned to Commander Glen to bear his fruit. I aim to be as non-suspecting as possible as I am working for the Mayday Resistance, I cannot wait for the day I see this theocratic regime crumble and we can return to our peaceful lives. The constant threat under the eyes surveiling us is a burden upon my shoulders, I can't wait to see myself figuratively stabbing the eyes and be able to run free. "Praise be," a saying we constantly have to say, the only praise I'll be able to give is when this is over.

Of course, I fear for my life. However, if sacrificing yourself is worthy in order to get results then so be it. I fear that we may not achieve this goal, but I will persevere. I've been trying to pinpoint other rebels by slipping 'mayday' within conversation, yet I do not want to overdo it Incase we get found out.

The Chief Elder
2/27/2026 12:04:33 pm

In my film my character hold the power to be a dictator meaning she can control or tell people what they CAN or CANT do in the her world, something that going on in my characters world is certain people don't know what's going on that the Chief Elder and the Giver knows as the Chief Elder is trying to control the Giver and stop him from spreading that information to the citizens.

My character (The Chief Elder) is a enforcer, The Chief Elder is desired to carry on with her sinister ways and try to stop Jonas (The Giver) from disrupting the society that she controls.

My world is a Engineered "utopia" masking oppression through propaganda.

Gabriel
2/27/2026 12:11:16 pm

I am Gabriel, an infant that was marked for execution due to failure to thrive. In this utopian world there is no pain, fear, and choice of sameness. The major conflict that defines society is person vs society. The community of elders is the one who holds power in this world. Things at stake in this world are the humanity, freedom, and lives of the community that has sacrificed deep emotion and memory for a life of sameness, security, and comfort. I'm just an infant in this world that is instantly targeted as you can. I fear a fruitless death. The way that I survive is by Jonas rescuing me from being killed and escaping the community, using special memories to keep me alive. The Giver represents a totalitarian, dystopia disguised as a utopia, where the society has traded freedom and deep emotion for safety, comfort.

Granger
2/27/2026 12:13:02 pm

This is a novel. Granger is located in the countryside, specifically along the abandoned railroad tracks outside the city. Granger is a former intellectual and leader of the "Book People" in Fahrenheit 451. Fahrenheit 451 depicts a dystopian, anti-intellectual future American society where books are banned and burned by "firemen" to eliminate dissent and critical thought. Citizens are consumed by mindless, shallow entertainment, such as wall-sized parlor televisions and "seashell" radio earbuds. The population is emotionally detached, heavily medicated, and often violent. The major conflict that defines this society is man versus society because of the struggle between conformity and free thought. In this novel Granger is good as he provides hope through his phoenix metaphor, suggesting humanity can rebuild from the ashes with the knowledge they've preserved. In this novel I would say I am an enforcer. Granger motivated by a desire to preserve human knowledge and literature through memorization. Fahrenheit 451 depicts a technologically advanced, anti-intellectual dystopia defined by state-sponsored censorship, rampant consumerism, and the loss of individual critical thought. The technological social-credit system and Totalitarian surveillance state is what I think this novel represents. This system controls its people by extreme censorship, anti-intellectualism, and mandatory conformity. The government controls people through the destruction of literature.

Professor Faber
2/27/2026 12:14:37 pm

Citizens live in a state of shallow,, medicated apathy, distracted by wall-sized TVs and constant media noise, leading to total social, intellectual, and emotional decay
The major conflict that defines the society in Fahrenheit 451 is Man versus Society, specifically characterized as the struggle between individualism/intellectual freedom and conformity/forced ignorance
Professor Faber is a retired English professor in Fahrenheit 451 who serves as a mentor to Montag, representing intellectualism, cowardice, and the value of books
primarily motivated by a deep-seated love for literature, guilt over his past inaction, and a desperate desire to see intellectual freedom and critical thinking restored to society
fears the totalitarian government, specifically the violent consequences of being discovered, such as having his house burned and being killed. He is deeply afraid of losing his life due to his intellectual,
desires the restoration of intellectual freedom, the return of literature, and a society that values quality information, leisure for thought, and the freedom to act upon knowledge
I come from a world that is a totalitarian, technology-driven dystopia disguised as an engineered 'utopia' of constant pleasure and mindless conformity. We have willingly traded knowledge, depth, and human connection for shallow, wall-to-wall television screens and constant stimulation from seashell radios. In this society, literature is burned because books provide 'pores'—detailed, messy truths—that threaten to break the illusion of happiness and make people think

!984 a British dystopian world ruled by Oceania, a totalitarian state. and economic elites control the means of production and have significant economic resources. I am an American sociologist who made a good amount of contributions to the field of sociology, specifically social theory, social structure, and social change, and was known as one of the most influential sociologists of the 20t century. In this dystopian society the state uses its power to keep a social control over everything in a person's life and enforce the ideology. The state has complete surveillance over all people monitoring their every move and thought.

The hunger games is a dystopian trilogy by Suzanne Collins set in Panem, a nation where ruthless Capitol forces twelve districts to send one boy and one girl aged 12-18 to fight to death on live TV. In this world, it's postapocalyptic the world is going through a huge global crisis. Multiple food shortages, facing and dealing with oppression and children being forced to fight illegally against their will and potentially end up dying in the end. The man vs society struggle defines this society. In this world it is ruled by President Coriolanus Snow. I've been planning my great plan to take him down and save the kids of the Capitol but a lot is at stake because if I'm caught I'll be executed and the kids would continue to die and live miserably and never experience freedom.

Hello, I'm Effie Trinket and I'm a rebel from this post apocalyptic wasteland. The skies are dark, grey and gloomy all the time, buildings sliced and broken down in half, dead bodies all over the floor, everyone is looking dirty, depressed and hungry, rarely any clean water in sight, everyone looks like their preparing for battle almost everyday. My duty is to save the kids of the Capitol from captivity and bring them home safely I've been an escort in the hunger games for some time now and each time it goes on my heart breaks to see all these kids battling from such young ages but a stop has to be put to that immediately but I have to e extremely careful because the soldiers watch my every move so it's hard to get into certain areas without them asking for recognition. My motivation for all this is seeing the kids a happy and well again but I fear for my life because if I die, there will be no change and all hope for a better world will be no more. I desire to see the world turn bright and positive especially for the younger generation.
This whole world is controlled by fear and despair. Poverty is extreme and it's hard for people to get their needs. Everyday a fight over food, water, clothes breaks out because they're so scarce and expensive. It is really difficult for individuals to live good and prosper in this world. There are so many cruel and heartless people in this world. I pray that my grand escape plan works and i'm able to save the children's lives.

Clark Thompson

In Station Eleven, the Georgia Flu wipes out most of the world, causing society to collapse. Twenty years later, small groups of survivors try to rebuild without electricity, government, or modern technology. The Traveling Symphony performs Shakespeare to keep art alive, while a violent leader called the Prophet controls people through fear and religion.
Clark Thompson helps rebuild a safe community at the airport. He believes in rules, teamwork, and preserving history. He creates the Museum of Civilization to help people remember the past and avoid dangerous leaders like the Prophet.
The novel is a post-apocalyptic wasteland dystopia. People are controlled mainly through fear and scarcity, and the Prophet uses religion to gain power. The story shows that survival is important, but so are hope and keeping humanity
