DiTerlizzi, T. (2000). Jimmy Zangwow's out-of-this-world, moon pie adventure. New York: Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers

The illustrations in Jimmy Znagwow's Out-of-This-World, Moon-Pie Adeventure (2000) are simply delightful. Jimmy's adventure begins when his mother tells him that a snack of milk and moon-pie will ruin his supper. In a temper-tantrum, Jimmy stalks off to spend some time in his invention: a home-made space-ship/jallopie. Before he knows what is happening, Jimmy is off on an adventure to find his own moon-pies. On his travels he meets Mr. Moon, visits the Milky Way and befriends Martians who help him find his way home. This children's book was a joy to read to my 4 year old daughter who loved the martians most of all!
DiTerlizzi's ilustrations are able to bring in the reader with their humorous expressions, whimsical designs, and over-all detail. Jimmy's face could be the face of any adventurous boy and his trip through the galaxy played on both fantasy and reality: Mr. Moon in his pyjamas and cap, the laughable Martians, the scary Grimble Grinder with the oh-so-typical Momism of "you'll ruin your dinner!" I recommend this book to any young book-lovers and all moon-pie eaters!
